According to the Men's Health Month organization, “the purpose of Men’s Health Month is to heighten the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys. This month gives health care providers, public policy makers, the media, and individuals an opportunity to encourage men and boys to seek regular medical advice and early treatment for disease and injury.” This is a great effort to help men focus on nipping serious health issues in the proverbial bud.
As a mental health clinician, I would also encourage men to take this time to consider the health of your cognitive & emotional world. We know how mental health issues can manifest themselves in our physical bodies, so if you are struggling with stress, anxiety, depression, or another mental health concern that is negatively impacting your life, June might be a good time to get the ball rolling toward better mental health as well.
